Figure Study - Cello with Maria
This is the first time in 2025 that i have been in the studio for a figure study with musical instrument. Maria was asked by a a fellow college student that I’m in class with who herself also volunteered to model as well. Maria is 25 and from Columbia. She asked if I could find a cello so she could pose with it.
According to the Stage Music Center the cello is part of the violin family. It was first made in northern Italy around 1550 and initially called the bass violin. In the 1700s Antonia Stradivari is credited for the standardizing the size for the instrument. The cello is a shortened form of the Italian word violoncello which means small large violin. It is the second largest of the bowed string instruments after the double bass.
Special thanks to Irene who assisted me with this shoot. Shoot on location at the Georgian College downtown campus, November 5, 2025.
